The final match of the Premier League game day between Aston Villa and Newcastle kicked off with Watkins’ goal in the first minute. The England international received the ball from Tielemans in the Magpies’ penalty area and, with the help of a deflection, opened the scoring just 35 seconds into the match.
Interestingly, for the 29-year-old Watkins, this goal was his 15th in the current Premier League campaign, making him the first player in Aston Villa history to achieve this milestone in three consecutive seasons.
Notably, the forward has now scored his 74th goal for Villa in the Premier League, tying him with Agbonlahor. Watkins’ next goal will break the record and place him at the top of Aston Villa’s all-time Premier League scorers list.
