Mohamed Salah breaks a Premier League record that stood for over 20 years

Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah set yet another record in the 31st Premier League match against West Ham United. This time, the achievement surpassed by the Egyptian forward had stood for over twenty years.

In the first half, the striker provided an assist to Luis Diaz. Thus, since the start of the season, Mohamed Salah has 27 goals, 18 assists, and a total of 45 direct goal contributions. This is one more than Thierry Henry’s record in the 2002/2003 season, which Erling Haaland matched in the 2022/2023 season.

Notably, while this is not an absolute league record, it is a record in the history of the 20-team tournament. Currently, the leaders in this category are Andrew Cole (1993/1994 season) and Alan Shearer (1994/1995 season). However, Cole and Shearer participated in 47 goals for their teams during seasons when the Premier League had 42 matches per season.

Salah achieved his milestone in a 38-match Premier League season. However, there are still six matches left in the season. Therefore, theoretically, the Egyptian star can still surpass this achievement. Salah needs to score or assist three more times to do so.

Previously, we reported that Mohamed Salah’s teammate, Luis Diaz, made a goal contribution in his fifth consecutive Premier League match.
