Flamengo is nearing an agreement to sign Arsenal midfielder Jorginho. According to ge, the club’s president Luiz Eduardo Baptista (Bap) has accepted the financial terms of the deal and is now waiting for the player’s final decision to move forward.
Negotiations accelerated last week when Flamengo’s sporting director José Boto met with Jorginho’s representatives. The proposed terms were submitted to the club’s president, who gave the green light. Flamengo aims to finalize the signing by June 10, with hopes that Jorginho will join immediately after the European season ends—just in time for the Club World Cup campaign.
Although his contract with Arsenal runs until June, Jorginho would need to arrange an early release. Arsenal is currently focused on its Champions League quarterfinal clash against Real Madrid, with the return leg scheduled for April 16.
Jorginho, 33, was recently vacationing in Rio de Janeiro with his wife and was warmly welcomed by Flamengo fans. While the midfielder remains open to other offers, sources suggest he is seriously considering Flamengo’s proposal.
Since joining Arsenal in 2023, Jorginho has made 76 appearances, scored twice, and provided three assists. His past clubs include Chelsea, Napoli, Sassuolo, and Hellas Verona. Flamengo hopes to secure his signing as a key reinforcement for international competitions.
