De Bruyne Could Join Messi as Inter Miami Holds MLS Discovery Rights

Inter Miami CF is now in pole position to sign Kevin De Bruyne if the Belgian midfielder opts for a move to Major League Soccer. According to ESPN, the South Florida club holds his MLS discovery rights, meaning they are first in line to negotiate with him once he becomes a free agent.

De Bruyne, 33, confirmed on social media last week that he will leave Manchester City at the end of the current season when his contract expires. In his farewell message, he thanked fans and the club for a transformative 10-year spell that included six Premier League titles, five Carabao Cups, two FA Cups, two Community Shields, and a Champions League.

Under MLS rules, each team can place up to five players on their discovery list, granting them exclusive rights to start contract talks. Although De Bruyne was previously linked to expansion side San Diego FC, their sporting director Tyler Heaps ruled out a deal due to salary demands.

Inter Miami already boasts a star-studded roster including Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets. With a packed 2025 calendar that includes MLS, the Leagues Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup, De Bruyne’s arrival could provide a major boost to their continental ambitions.
